We understand that when one typically thinks of a family farm, they envision a backyard set up with some chickens, a garden, and various livestock. In reality, family farms account for 96% of all U.S. farms according to the 2017 Census of Agriculture Farm Typology report released in January 2021 by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
These American farms are comprised from:
1,789,439 small family farms, 108,304 mid-size family farms, 52,592 large-scale family farms.
These family farms collectively produced $318 billion worth of agricultural products in 2017, according to Tony Dorn, Environmental, Economics, and Demographics Branch Chief, National Agricultural Statistics Service in Research and Science for the USDA in a publication titled Family Farms Continue to Power U.S. Agriculture.
It is our goal at Donaldson Farms to meet the growing demand for locally sourced pasture-raised beef by continuing to grow our herd numbers and by providing the highest quality of care for a quality product.
The average American eats about
55 pounds of beef per year,
based on 2019 USDA Food Availability Data.
In 2019, Americans averaged their red meat intake to about 105.2 pounds per person.
This old saying holds very true even in today's modern society:
"If you know how to read, thank a teacher.
If you ate today, thank a farmer."
Now we can even extend a little further:
if you have a modern American diet...
THANK A CATTLE FARMER!
